Understanding the Challenge
Current pitch testing methods are fragmented and inadequate for assessing safety, playability, and performance. The data collected is rudimentary, and manually generated and recorded. This leads to errors and inconsistencies in the data. Key stakeholders often lack meaningful insights into the state of athletic fields. Biocore's innovative STRIKE tester addresses the shortcomings in existing pitch management solutions integrating state-of-the-art research and analytics.
The development process began with collecting and analyzing kinetics and kinematics from player studies. Next, these player inputs were modeled using groundbreaking turf finite element analysis. Finally, the combined player and surface data expedited iterative prototyping, shaping device characteristics such as the impact mass's form and weight, impact energy, and surface interaction dynamics. The result is a biomechanically informed, advanced surface tester that more precisely identifies surface attributes critical for player safety and performance perception—a significant leap forward in field testing technology
